The Adair County Lady Indians have had a rocky start for the 2024-2025 season, currently leveraging two wins against four losses. However, this is a massive improvement from just over a week ago when the Indians were sitting on a zero to three record. Last week, they scored their first win of the season against the Washington County Commanders (56 to 49) after a period of gradually improving. This week demonstrates the team is continuing to get better—the girls netted a decisive victory against Butler County Bears on Saturday going 80 to 56.
Winning against the Bears provided a much-needed morale boost, helping offset the early-season score of zero to three against Cumberland, Taylor, and East Jessamine, but also a bitter loss the girls suffered on Friday playing Campbellsville. There, the girls lost 62 to 71. Pulling out a victory against the Lady Eagles was always going to be hard fought; Campbellsville currently sits at a flawless four to zero record for the year with two district wins under their belt.
But playing Butler County’s Lady Bears provided a massive comeback. While not quite as impressive as Campbellsville’s current win ratio, the Bears went into the game with a three to zero win rate for the season and a district game win. Going by record, the Bears seemed favored to win. So when Adair claimed victory by nearly 25 points, it was a clear indicator of the Indians’ growing strength as a team.
During the game, seventh grade point guard Ila Loy stood out as a major player when she became the first Lady Indian of the season to hit a double double: 10 points and 10 rebounds. Of the Indians’ 80 points, 29 of them were scored by Kinzlee Akin and another 21 were from Reese Bardin.
Then, the girls played their final game of 2024 against Hart County on Tuesday night.
The next game for the Lady Indians will be against Green County on January 3 at 7 p.m. It will be a home game.
