The Adair County Middle School football team suffered a brutal defeat at the hands of Hart County on Thursday night. The Adair boys failed to score a point against the opposition, leading to a score of zero to 44 in favor of Hart County.
Head coach Wes Stephens immediately began an analysis of the game to find out what went wrong. “Hart is a really good team,” Coach Stephens said.
Hart County’s team, simply, was more domineering, more aggressive, and more experienced than the young athletes on Coach Stephens’s team. “We were just physically outmanned. We are playing a lot of young and inexperienced kids right now. We’re dealing with a lot of injuries.”
The loss was not entirely in vain, however, as Coach Stephens remains optimistic that the defeat will provide a solid learning opportunity for his players. Only the day after the loss, he already had solutions going forward: his athletes need to be more aggressive and more physical. If they can implement these strategies and be more assertive, the loss will not sting as bad.
“It’s rough to take one on the chin like we did tonight, but it’s a good learning opportunity for our younger players. Adversity is part of the game how you deal with adversity impacts the game. Hopefully the lessons we are learning now will pay off in the future when we are a little more experienced. We’re not out of the fight this season. We will regroup and keep working to get better every day,” Coach Stephens said.
