The Lady Indians and the Indians defeated their opponents in Round 1 of the District Tournament and now make their way into the finals.

The Lady Indians will take on Taylor County tonight at 6 p.m. in the John Burr Gymnasium right here at home.

The Indians will take on the winner of Wednesday night’s game between Taylor County and Marion County on Friday at 6 p.m., also here at the Adair County High School John Burr Gymnasium.

Adair County girls beat Campbellsville, advance to final district game

Adair County Lady Indians won an upset victory on Monday night in the first game of district play. The girls defeated Campbellsville with a nailbiting margin of 52 to 51. They will now move ahead to face Taylor County on Thursday for the 20th District Title.
All the girls on the court worked hard to earn the victory. The top two highest-scoring athletes were Kinzlee Akin (#20, Junior) and Ila Loy (#14, 7th) respectively earning 16 points and 13 points. Akin’s 16 points were comprised largely of two-pointers—she made four out of six. She also shot a three-pointer and made five of her nine free-throw attempts.
Loy earned her 13 points most through three-pointers, scoring three out of her four shots. This is above the team average for 41.2% of three-pointers scored. She had no free-throws, but she also earned two two-pointers.
The third highest scorer was Addison Bowman (#2, Freshman) with eight points that derived from two two-pointers, a three-pointer, and a free throw. Reese Bardin (#5, Freshman) and Riley Shelby (#24, Senior) each made six points. Allee Campbell (#25, Freshman) shot a two-pointer and a free throw, earning the team three points.
Winning against the Lady Eagles was always possible, but Campbellsville being second in the district (and the Lady Indians being third) put them in a favored position. The victory marks a high point for the Lady Indians this season, who have slowly grown into a more and more formidable team. Recent weeks have seen them expand their win ratio, with more Ws appearing on the board than Ls (and beating the Eagles means the girls now have a five-game win streak). A young team, winning the first game of district is even more evidence that the girls will continue to make progress next season under Coach Stacia Hill.
The Adair County girls will take on Taylor County on Thursday night at 6 p.m. in the John Burr Gymnasium at the Adair County High School. A win against Taylor County would allow the Lady Indians to make a bid for the 5th Regional Tournament.
A full recap of the final District games will be available in next week’s issue of the Adair County Community Voice.

Adair County boys continue toward district title game

The Adair County Indians will go on to compete for the district title after beating Campbellsville 85 to 44 on Tuesday night.
The Indians entered the competition as the clear favorite to win. Ranked first in the district and Campbellsville as fourth, the Eagles were simply not able to make an upset play like the Lady Indians were the previous night when they cruised to a victory against their (favored) opponents. It was the sixth win in a row for the Indians and their first game since last Friday’s matchup with Mercer County.
There, the Indians defeated the Mercer County Titans 49 to 40. There, Connor Loy (#14, Senior) was the MVP with a total of 13 points scored for the team. He accomplished this by way of six two-pointers (out of nine attempted) and a free-throw. Isaiah Cochran (#5, Senior) and Brayton Coomer (#21, Senior) tied for second-highest points earned with 12 each. Cochran got five two-pointers and two free throws. Coomer scored six two-pointers.
For the big district matchup with Campbellsville, Cochran was the top-scoring player. He made nine out of 12 attempted two-pointers, a three-pointer, and two free throws (out of two attempted). This added up to a grand total of 23 points for the Indians. Loy was in second place with 21 points. The senior shot eight out of nine two-point attempts, a three-pointer, and two free-throws. Dawson Gilbert (#1, Junior) and Coomer were tied for third place with 10 points each. As a whole, the boys shot only four free-throws this game, but their 60% accuracy on field goals easily propelled them to the last game of the district.
The boys won their own district game only one day after the Lady Indians also beat Campbellsville, meaning both teams are one step closer to district title. The boys will face either Taylor County or Marion County on Friday night at 6 p.m. in the Adair County High School John Burr Gymnasium. If they will, they will advance to regionals.
Last year, the Indians made it to the Sweet 16 at Rupp Arena where they were knocked out by Lyon County (who went on to win the Sweet 16). Making it to regionals would put the Indians one step closer to playing at Rupp Arena again.
