Rev. Charles Edward Brown, 84, of Columbia, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on October 25, 1940, in Adair County to the late Earl and Ellen Bedwell Brown.
Mr. Brown was a member of the Union Chapel Baptist Church and a faithful man of God. He was called to preach the gospel in 1970 and preached his first sermon on June 27, 1970, he went on to pastor many churches in the area. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, ginseng digging, gardening, telling stories and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Shirley Pyles Brown of Columbia; three children, Kenny Brown (Becky) of Knifley, Larry Brown (Patty) of Russell Springs, and Virginia Hatfield of Knoxville, TN; fifteen grandchildren Brian Brown, Casey Brown, Kenny Wayne Brown (Bekah), Annie Eads (Richard), Charles Brown (GariAnna), JoJo Brown, DeNero Brown, Terrell Brown, Jimmy Brown, Makayla Brown, Nick Brown, Shannon Curry (Mike), Amanda Cook (Todd), Amanda Streeval, and Chasity Streeval; nineteen great grandchildren and one on the way; one great great grandchild; six siblings Doris McAnelly of Columbia, KY, Sue Clarkston of Knifley, KY, Midge Rosenberger (Don) of Indiana, Jimmy Brown (Debbie) of Columbia, KY, Herschel Brown (Jeanette of Columbia, KY and George Brown (Carol) of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, Danny and Jackie Brown, and four siblings, Gordon, Glen and John Brown, and Voicel Sanders.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 4, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the New Hope Cemetery.
Bro. Jerry Brown and Bro. Richard Fuller officiated, and pallbearers were Charles Brown, Brian Brown, Kenny Wayne Brown, Elijah Curry, Trevin Pierce, and Tanner Pierce. Honorary pallbearers will be Terrell and Jimmy Brown.
