Storms cut Indians short again

For the second game in a row, the Adair County Indians football team has had a winning game cut short due to lightning.
While it is unfortunate for both Adair and opposing team, LaRue, the game could not be completed, it ending at halftime meant the Indians were able to claim yet another flawless defeat of their competition. When storms rolled in at the halfway point, the score was Adair at 14 and LaRue at zero.
Head Coach Steve Stonebreaker said of the boys’ playing that night, “I thought we came out and did what we needed to do, scoring the ball and getting their offense stopped.”
One hallmark of the game was an abundance of tackles on Adair County’s side. Aidan Smith made four tackles by the time the game ended; Tristan Mullins, Ryder Rodgers, and Mahlon Coblentz all made three tackles each. Solomon Stonebreaker and Braxton Brown also scored three tackles, alongside two tackles-for-loss for each player. Stonebreaker also made one sack.
A star player for the game was Lane Grant, who rushed 14 for 132 and made two touchdowns, helping to propel the Indians to their ultimate final score of 14.
Coach Stonebreaker was happy with these performances, saying, “I thought we did some good things offensively in the run game. We were able to get some chunk plays that made a difference.”
Still, despite the overwhelming success of the game, Coach Stonebreaker is always looking for ways to improve going forward. “We struggled again defensively in third and long situations and have to clean that up. We have to get our opponents offense off of the field and not give them extra opportunities… We (also) have to be more disciplined in how we are making contact with defenders as we had two touchdowns called back for penalties.”
The game makes the third, consecutive win for the Adair County Indians this season. It puts them in a good spot for this Friday night when the team will have another home game. This time, they will be playing Franklin-Simpson, who have gone 2-1 so far.
Coach Stonebreaker stated, “We have a heck of a challenge in front of us this week with Franklin-Simpson. We have to do a great job in all three phases of the game this week.”
