The choirs of Adair County Middle School, Adair County High School, and Lindsey Wilson College presented their first Collaboration Concert last week Friday at United Methodist church. The house was packed and the audience enjoyed a great performance of all three choirs.
The middle school’s choir, conducted by Noah Konsavage, opened the evening with “Come in From the Firefly Darkness” by Amy Bernon, followed by “Sing, Sing (Cantate Domino)” by Sally Albrecht. The audience was impressed by the high level this young singers have reached already.
Next in Line was the high school’s choir, directed by Kaleigh Foster. The singers opened their part with Andy Beck’s “In the Dark of Midnight”, followed by “Inveniam Viam (Find a Way)” by Ryan Main. Both, the middle school and the high school choir were accompanied by Dwayne Martin on the piano.
In the third part the piano was mainly played by Dr. Gerald L. Chafin, Conductor of Choral Ensembles at Lindsey Wilson College. His Lindsey Wilson Singers and Concert Choir presented first “Kyrie” by Mark Patterson, featuring a dance interpretation by LWC senior Charlotte Archey. The second performance was the “Song of Ruth” by David Childs. Here LWC senior Kayla Koerner played Ruth in historical gown, explaining the background of the story.
The concert was connected to “Music In Our Schools Month” (MIOSM), an annual observance in March that highlights the importance of music education in schools and communities. Established by the National Association for Music Education, MIOSM aims to raise awareness about the value of music programs and the positive impact they have on students’ academic, social, and emotional development.
“Research has shown that students who participate in music programs tend to perform better academically, have higher attendance rates, and demonstrate improved behavior compared to their peers,” the concert’s organizers explained, and added that music also has therapeutic effects, reducing stress and anxiety while promoting relaxation and emotional well-being. On Friday night the audience could experience the latter in person by enjoying a great concert of three choirs.
