Thelma Etta Smith Cook, 102, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 at Summit Manor Health and Rehab Center.

She was a life-long resident of Adair County where she was a homemaker and caregiver.

She was a devout Christian from an early age. Her goal in life was to do for others. After the death of her mother, she raised her three younger brothers and little sister. When she had time, she loved gardening, crocheting and making quilts.

Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Cook; and by her parents, Newton and Maggie Thurman Smith.

She is survived by her daughter, Doris Rudder and her husband John of Stevenson, Ala.; two grandchildren, John C. Rudder and Mary Etta Rowe; and by four great grandchildren, Josh Rudder, Lucas Rudder, Zack Rowe and Seth Rowe.

She is also survived by five great-great grandchildren.

Funeral service was Sunday, Dec. 30 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Bro. Ralph Hadley officiating with interment in Columbia Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Carl Jones, Mark Jones, Terry Moore, Seth Rowe, Zack Rowe, Josh Rudder and Lucas Rudder.
