An Adair County man and woman were injured, with the woman entrapped under a van, after a head on collision on Tuesday.

The Adair County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched at 11:42 a.m. on Tuesday to a head on collision with possible entrapment on KY Hwy. 76, or Millerfield Road, 15 miles east of Columbia.

Upon Sheriff Josh Brockman’s arrival on scene, it was found that two occupants had been ejected, and a female was pinned underneath a van where it landed on her after she was ejected.

Adair County EMS arrived on scene along with Columbia-Adair County Fire Department.

The fire department was able to dig the ditch line out manually with shovels before lifting devices arrived on scene making it possible to remove her from underneath the vehicle.

Preliminary investigation shows that a 2004 Chevy utility van operated by Robert Hagy, 71, of Columbia was traveling west on KY Hwy. 76 along with his passenger, Connie McGowan, 51, of Columbia.

Hagy dropped off the shoulder of the road and over corrected in attempt to regain control. The vehicle crossed the center line and struck a 2002 Jeep operated by Michaela Waskoski, 19, of Columbia in a head on collision.

The van then spun around in roadway ejecting Hagy and McGowan from the vehicle.

Hagy was thrown clear, however McGowan landed in a ditch and the van came to rest on top of her in the ditch.

Hagy was treated on scene by EMS and transported to T.J. Health of Columbia.

McGowan was treated on scene by EMS after being freed from entrapment and transported to Russell County Hospital where she was eventually transferred to University of Kentucky with serious injuries.

Waskoski was not transported by EMS.

Deputy Chandler Staten is the lead investigator on the collision and was assisted by Deputy Brandon Hitch and Sheriff Brockman.
