Friday evening a man was struck by a car while riding his bicycle on Hwy. 80 east. Jesse Lowery, 18, was operating the bicycle about nine miles east of Columbia when he was struck by a 2014 Kia being driven by 80-year-old Daniel Spieker of Columbia.
According to investigating officers on the scene, Speaker failed to see the bicyclist traveling east bound.
Lowery was treated on scene by Adair County EMS and was then transported
to Russell County Hospital. Lowery was later transported to University
of Kentucky where he is reported to be in critical condition.
Spieker was not injured in the collision and was cited for leaving the scene of
an accident/failure to render aide and failure to produce insurance
card.

The collision is being investigated by Adair County Sheriff’s Deputy Joey Keith who was
assisted on scene by Deputy Brandon Hitch, Trooper Begley and Trooper
Blakey from the Kentucky State Police.
