Vernon Lee ‘Pete’ McKinney

Vernon Lee “Pete” McKinney, 80, of Columbia passed away Thursday, July 28, 2016  at his home after a long illness.
Pete was born Nov. 3, 1935 in Adair County and was the son of the late Austin and Cecil Burton McKinney.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Bobby McKinney; and two sisters, Louise McKinney and Allene Holmes.
Pete is survived by one son, Douglas Rex McKinney and wife, Susan of Palos Hills, Ill.; one daughter, Tammy Lee McKinney and her husband, Michael Nilles of Palos Hills, Ill; two brothers, Steve McKinney of Columbia and Gary McKinney of Jeffersonville, Ind.; three grandchildren, Austin Lee McKinney, Riley Ann McKinney, and Andrew Douglas McKinney.
Mr. McKinney was a member of the Bearwallow United Methodist Church; a U.S. Army Veteran; and was a retiree of General Motors/Electromotive in Chicago, Ill.
Funeral service was Monday, Aug. 1 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Rev. Glenn LaFond officiating and interment at Haven Hill Cemetery with full military honors by VFW Post 6097.
Pallbearers were Brad Keltner, Jacob Keltner, Austin McKinney, Brandon McKinney, David McKinney, and Larry Stotts.
Stotts-Phelps-McQueary was in charge of funeral arrangements.
