The Adair County FFA traveled to Lexington June 9-12 to compete in various competitions. On Monday, Adair County Middle School students- Mason Curry, Logan Faulkner, Madison Foster, Kayden Pegg, Colton Grant, Andrew Miller, Mason Taylor, Will Reynolds, and Kylie Thorpe -competed in Extemporaneous Speaking, Prepared Public Speaking, Opening/Closing Ceremonies, and FFA Quiz Bowl Contests. Mason Taylor, Andrew Miller, Madison Foster, and Kylie Thorpe won 2nd place in the state quiz bowl competition with Mason Taylor being named high individual in the quiz bowl written exam.
On Tuesday, Jack Fishback gave a stellar performance and won 1st place in the Talent Contest. He will compete at the Kentucky State Fair. Hudson Hancock presented his business proposal and was a recipient of a $5,000 FFA Shark Tank Grant for his SAE. Abby Maulden competed in the Small Animal Public Speaking Contest and Amelia Martin competed in the Goat and Sheep Public Speaking Contest.
On Wednesday, Kylie Cowan was awarded 1st place in the Veterinary Science proficiency competition. Her proficiency will go on to compete nationally in October. Harper Grider won 3rd place in the Equine Placement proficiency contest. The Sr. FFA Quiz Bowl team gave an awesome performance and made it to the semifinals of their competition amid some fierce rivalries. Team members include Ethan Wooten, Sophie Eaton, James Jessie, and Kendyl Burton. Breanna Foster and Tianna King signed letters of intent to pursue their education to become agriculture teachers.
On Thursday, Alyssa Greer, Maycee Hovious, and Gabby Kemp received the prestigious Kentucky FFA State Degree during the final session of the 96th Kentucky FFA State Convention.
Our alum and State President Trenton Page conducted the business of each session and presented a wonderful retiring address. It has truly been a joy to see him lead our state throughout the year and we are beyond proud of his year of service!
It was a wonderful week and a great experience for all our students and advisors. We look forward to the year ahead and how we will continue to grow as an officer team and chapter. We can’t wait to see what future success is in store.
