The Adair County wrestling program came out strong in its inaugural season.
With nearly 60 student-athletes ranging from fourth through 12th grade on the roster and additional students showing interest as the season progresses.
The team has competed in several dual matches and tournaments during the season, gaining valuable experience early. The middle school squad made its competitive debut on Nov. 15, 2025, at South Warren, marking the first official match for the wrestlers.
History was made on Dec. 4, 2025, when Adair County hosted its first-ever wrestling match at Adair County Middle School. The event represented a significant milestone for the program and for wrestling in the county.
Another historic moment followed in varsity competition when Keylin Bergin, a member of the girls’ team, recorded the first varsity wrestling victory in Adair County history, earning a win by pinfall.
As the season continues, the team shows steady improvement and growing confidence on the mat. Wrestlers have earned numerous medals, and podium finishes across both boys’ and girls’ teams.
Head Coach Abe Cross, along with assistant coaches Derek Nickel and Josh Furkin, have led an intensive training schedule, practicing five days a week unless a meet is scheduled. Cross said he has been pleased with the team’s growth and with how wrestlers are beginning to understand the progression and strategy of a match.
Only three wrestlers on the roster entered the season with prior experience, making the program’s early successes and continued momentum an encouraging sign as Adair County builds its wrestling foundation.
