A KSP trooper with close ties to Adair County dies after being shot during traffic stop

Kentucky State Police has confirmed that Trooper Hayden Phillips died from a gunshot wound sustained during a traffic stop on Interstate 65 North in Bowling Green. The incident occurred around 2 p.m.

Phillips, a three-year veteran of KSP, was assigned to Post 3 in Bowling Green and was currently residing in Barren County. He is originally from Russell Springs.Phillips is the son of Larry “Homer” Phillips and Robin Phillips. His father is an Adair County native, and the Phillips family have strong ties to the community.

The suspect has been identified as Emonnie Branch. The Community Voice is receiving word that the suspect has just been apprehended in Jefferson County. Updates will be provided when available.

A massive search took place and emergency alerts described  the suspect as a Black male with dreadlocks, possibly worn in a bun. He was reportedly driving a grayish-blue Honda Civic with Alabama temporary tags TN018596.This is a developing story. The Voice will provide additional information as it becomes available.
