Indians’ head football coach, Steve Stonebraker, announced in a Facebook post Monday night that he has accepted another position, making the 2024 season his last at Adair County.
“As a veteran football coach, I am no stranger to tough decisions and sometimes tough decisions have to be made. I have recently accepted a coaching position elsewhere and, while I will not be back on the sideline next season at Adair County, I wish the Indians and the ACHS football program nothing but the absolute best… I hope that Adair County football is a little bit better off because I was here the past two years. ACHS football will always be a part of my story and I am proud of that,” Coach Stonebraker said in his Facebook post.
During the 2024 season, Coach Stonebraker and his team broke numerous records and was one of the best-performing teams in the history of the Adair County High School football program. They placed second in the district and finished 2024 with 10 wins and 3 losses, matching the school record for wins and becoming only the fourth team in school history to win a playoff game. This team was the only team in the program’s over-fifty-year history to be ranked in the top 10.
“When you look at what we accomplished this year, it was really incredible,” Coach Stonebraker said. “Our guys can look back and have a lot to be proud of.”
Coach Stonebraker joined the program in 2023. Since then, he says that the team’s accomplishments could not have been done by himself.
“We made some incredible memories and had plenty of accomplishments that were historic for the program. We could not have done that without the support of so many parents, boosters and school staff… Adair County High School will be (Solomon’s) alma mater and I couldn’t be happier about that… There are so many people who have treated him like family and I appreciate each and every one of you,” he stated.
Adair County Schools’ superintendent, Jason Faulkner, issued a statement in support of Coach Stonebraker and acknowledging his role in shaping the Indians’ football program.
“Coach Stonebraker has been a committed member of the Adair County High School community for the past two years. During his tenure, he made remarkable contributions to the football program… On behalf of the entire Adair County School District staff, I want to express our gratitude to Coach Stonebraker for his efforts with our football program over the last two seasons. He is an exceptional educator, an outstanding football coach, and an even better role model for our students. We wish him the best in his future endeavors, and he will certainly be missed,” he said.
Coach Stonebraker has accepted a position as head football coach at Danville Independent High School.
