The Adair County girls’ golf team faced a challenging but rewarding test Monday as they competed in a tournament in Bowling Green — on the same course where the state championship is played.
The Lady Indians finished 8th out of 10 teams with a score of 390, slightly above their season average of 368. While the result wasn’t their lowest of the season, Head Coach Ashley Goodin said the day was about much more than the scoreboard.
“This was a chance for the girls to see what a really good, solid tournament feels like,” Goodin explained. “The course was tough, but it’s the same one they play state on, so it was great experience for them.”
The team consisted of five players, with the four lowest individual scores counting toward the overall team total. Their season goal is to break 350, with their current best at 356.
The tournament had 70 individual participants from across the region, giving the Lady Indians a chance to compete against some of the state’s top golfers.
Despite the challenging course and strong competition, the day was an important step forward for the young program.
The team was started in 2023 and has a total of 17 golfers this year. A showcase is planned for today at 2:00 pm at The Pines, 227 Country Club Rd. The public is invited to attend.
