For the first time in more than three decades, both the Adair County boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams qualified for the state meet, marking a historic accomplishment for the program. The competition was held Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.
The girls’ team capped off their standout season with a 14th-place finish among 28 teams statewide. Leading the way was Brianna Hillock, who delivered an exceptional performance, placing sixth out of 223 runners. Her top 10 finish earned her a spot on the state podium and recognition as First Team All-State.
On the boys’ side, Luke Albrecktson led the charge, finishing 35th out of 262 runners. The boys’ team placed 19th out of 33, rounding out an impressive season.
Three team members were also named to the 2A Region 2 All Region Team; Arianna Meyer, Brianna Hillock, and Luke Albrektson. They each earned a spot based on their performances at the regional race.
“This year marked a season of rebuilding for the Adair County cross country program,” said Head Coach Bill Hillock. “With a group of motivated runners and a renewed team culture, we achieved milestones that haven’t been reached in decades.”
“As head coach, I am both humbled and inspired by the dedication and work ethic of our athletes and assistant coaches. Their collective effort created a season our community can truly be proud of and one I will always remember in my first year leading the program,” he said. “With such a talented and determined young team, the future of Adair County cross country is bright.”
