The Adair County Indians fell to the Campbellsville Eagles Friday night with a final score of 52-6. It was a tough loss ending regular season play. However, the Indians are focused this week on playoffs. Their motto all season has been “Focus, Fight, Finish,” and they intend to do just that in post season play.
"We wrapped up the regular season playing the best competition in the area, regardless of class, in Campbellsville High School. I will be surprised if they aren't playing at Kroger Field in a few weeks. Their team’s speed and strength up front were the major differences in the game,” said Head Coach Bryan Cross.
With a halftime score of 29-6, Cross hoped that the team could score when they returned to the field.
“Unfortunately, we threw an interception and they scored immediately. That was pretty much the end of any chance we had to pull off a major upset,” he said. “I love the way our kids competed. We made a few plays, just not enough. Defensively, we had a couple of fourth down stops but couldn’t catch up to the Eagles speed guys.”
The Indians are focused on the future, not the past. The playoffs begin Friday, and they face some tough competition. Murray is currently undefeated. However, they are 3-0 in district play. Adair is 2-3 in district play. Adair has played some tough teams this season to prepare them for post season play.
"We head into the playoffs this week with a long road trip to Murray High School. Murray is undefeated at 10-0 and really has not been tested,” said Cross. “They have an explosive offense with a very strong line. We will have to play our best game of the year and control the tempo to have a chance.”
“Playoffs are a reward for hanging tough all year and that is what we have done. We will work hard and practice this week just like we do every week and prepare to pull off the biggest upset in the state,” he said.
The game will be played at Ty Holland Stadium, 801 Main St., Murray at 7 p.m. The stadium is cashless, and tickets are available online at gofan.com.
