Adair County High School basketball has busy summer

The Adair County High School basketball team has had a productive summer. Both players and coaches have been hard at work playing in summer games. They began working out in May and continued into June.
The team played at Lindsey Wilson Shootout, Metcalfe County Shootout, two games at Russell County, two games at Clay County, and in the KABC Bluegrass Shootout in front of college coaches at Lexington Catholic.
“I think summer went very well. Obviously it’s tough when you lose eight seniors who won back-to-back regional championships, but I think ultimately, we had a productive summer,” said Coach Jordan Brangers. “I think us going 9-7 with a fresh team with hardly any experience is pretty good.”
The first official practice for the team is Oct. 15.
“August leading up until school starting, we are going to do individual workouts and some weightlifting,” said Brangers.
Brangers has four assistant coaches for the upcoming seaso: Zach Proffitt, Hunter Cundiff, Bee Jay Steinhilber, and Kyle Burton. Their first game is scheduled for Dec. 1 against Elizabethtown at home.
Dawson Gilbert, Landon Blakey, and John Sheehan have all stepped up, and Brangers expects them to be key players in the upcoming season.

Camp with the Champs
The boys’ basketball team hosted “Camp with the Champs” on July 10-12. The camp was held for youth K-6 and was well attended with close to 60 students in attendance. The youth each received a certificate and a t-shirt. On the final day, awards were given for hot shot champion, 3 vs 3 champion, camp MVP for each grade level, 5 v 5 champion, and hardest worker.
The team and coaches enjoyed working with the youth and teaching them fundamental skills and teamwork.
