The Adair County Indians baseball team played in the 20th District Tournament on Wednesday, May 21 in Campbellsville.
The Indians took on Campbellsville in the first-round game. The Indians scored one run in the first inning with a single by Dax Conn. The Eagles answered with two runs in their first at bat.
Brayton Coomer hit a home run in the second inning to score two more for Adair, and Jasper Kemp followed with a double scoring one run. There was a little struggle on the mound with Isaac Rodgers allowing two hits and two runs in one and one-third innings. Bryce Russell allowed four hits and three runs in three innings while striking out three. Coomer and Kemp each pitched on relief to stop Campbellsville. The Indians won the game 6-5.
In the finals of the district tournament, Adair County took on Taylor County. The game started slow with neither team scoring in the first inning. An error by the Indians put Taylor on the board in the second inning. The Indians scored on a passed ball to tie the game at 1-1.
Coomer began the game on the mound for the Indians and surrendered three hits and four runs, struck out nine and walked two over six and two-thirds innings. In the end, Adair County came up one run short falling 3-4 to Taylor County placing the Indians as 20th District Runner-up.
On Monday, the Indians traveled to North Hardin to take on Nelson County in the first round of the 5th Region Tournament.
Aiden Smith put Adair on the board with a bunt scoring one run. Alex Martin hit a triple and added another run for the team.
Nelson County captured the lead in the bottom of the fourth 4-2. Despite the patience at the plate and nine walks, Adair County fell to Nelson County 4-10, which ended the season.
Overall Adair County had an impressive season with a 23-11 record. They were ranked in the top 25 teams in the state by two different sources and advanced to the regional tournament.
Several players received recognition for their season play.
Bryce Russell was named to the 20th District All Academic Team, Brayton Coomer and Aiden Smith were named to the 20th District All Season Team, Coomer and Alex Martin were named to the 20th District All Tournament team, and Martin was named to the 5th Region All Tournament team.
