The Adair County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a scam involving callers impersonating law enforcement officers and falsely claiming victims have outstanding warrants.
The sheriff’s office received two calls from citizens Thursday, Aug. 13, reporting they had received phone calls from a man claiming to be Sgt. Hall with the Adair County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the reports, the caller told the residents they had missed a federal jury court date and had an arrest warrant.
The sheriff’s office said there is no Sgt. Hall employed by the agency and emphasized that its personnel will not call residents to inform them that they have a federal warrant.
“If you receive any call like this or any other calls that you may think is a scam, hang up immediately and report it to authorities,” Sheriff Gary Roy said.
Residents are reminded not to provide personal information, financial information or payment to callers claiming to represent law enforcement. Anyone who receives a suspicious call should end the call and contact local authorities through an official phone number.
