For the first time in Adair Co history, three students were chosen for the Governor’s Scholars Program and one student was chosen as an alternate.
Abigail Kemp, Kelsay Breeding, Trina Nguyen were chosen for the prestigious program and Sarah Gass was selected as an alternate.
The Governor’s Scholars Program is a summer residential program for upcoming seniors in high school that have displayed academic excellence, participated in extracurricular activities and volunteered in their community.
They must be nominated by their school, have a teacher recommendation as well as a community recommendation.
Each student also submits an original writing entry.
The selected students from each school district then compete on the state level with an average of 2,000 entries per year and approximately 50 percent of those students being chosen.
The selected students will attend a five-week residential program at one of three colleges in Kentucky where they attend sessions and classes on their focus area, general studies, and leadership.
The students interact with other students from diverse backgrounds who exhibit the same intellectual capacities as themselves.
At the Adair County Board of Education meeting last Thursday, Superintendent Jason Faulkner recognized each of the four Adair County students and presented them with an award of recognition.
