Gov. Andy Beshear announced Monday that an Adair County woman became the 16th Kentucky victim to die because of the recent winter storm.
Deputy Coroner Emily Sanders confirmed Monday afternoon that the 75-year-old female was found outside of her home Saturday morning. The coroner’s office believes the woman walked out on her porch sometime between Friday afternoon and Saturday morning and fell, and was unable to get up. A neighbor apparently found her on Saturday and called e911. The victim was not identified but did live in the Cane Valley community of Adair County.
The Adair County Ambulance Service responded at 8:05 am. and attempted to resuscitate the female. She was transported to T.J. Health Columbia where CPR continued. She was pronounced deceased at 1:13 p.m.
The victim’s body was sent to the state medical examiner’s office to determine cause of death. Preliminary findings indicate she died from hypothermia.
The coroner’s office issued a press release, in which they expressed their sympathy to the family and asked the community to respect their privacy during this time.
