Adair County athletics has named former coach Deron Breeze as interim head coach for the 2025-2026 season. This comes after Jordan Brangers resigned from the position on August 27.
After back-to-back region wins with trips to the state tournament, Breeze decided to resign from the position in April after ten years as head coach for the Indians.
“(Jason) Faulkner and (Tyler) Maskill have always been good to me…Faulkner, the superintendent, was in a predicament and didn’t want to have to go out and search for a coach. If they have to go out and search for a coach, they are running up into the real season by the time practice starts, and he didn’t want to have to do all that. How do I feel about it? I am fine doing it for the season.” said Breeze.
Monday night were the first work outs that Breeze has had with the team since April. Their official practice schedule does not start until Oct. 15.
“I have only told them I would do it for the year. My plan is only to do it [coach] for the year unless something changes on my end as the season goes,” said Breeze. “I resigned because I wasn’t really wanting to coach, so I am not going to see what a year will be like without coaching. With that said, during the middle of the year if I decide that I want to keep going on, as long as I have that option then I will. As of right now, I just plan on doing it for the season.”
“I am looking forward to coaching again this season,” said Breeze.
Dawson Gilbert, John Sheehan and Landon Blakey are anticipated to be who Breeze looks to handle the bulk of the scoring load. There are another 4-6 players who he sees could get playing time throughout the year.
“Adair County athletics is extremely excited to have one of the best in the business returning to take over a talented 25-26 team,” said athletic director Tyler Maskill. “He has already stepped in and hasn’t missed a beat with his training. We are excited to see these boys take the court with a potential trip to Rupp for the third year in a row.”
