Deer donations wanted for hunger relief program

Posted

This weekend is the opening for Kentucky’s modern gun deer season and KY Hunters for the Hungry are encouraging Adair County hunters to donate field-dressed deer to be used to supply both the Adair County Food Pantry and the Adair County meat stick program in cooperation with the local school system. The program supplied 20,000 meat sticks from the 2023-2024 hunting season to supplement the school backpack program and as a source of nutrition for children at school. Donating is free to the hunter, with the cost of processing the donated deer paid through KY Hunters for the Hungry. Hunters can donate their deer locally at Hometown Butcher, Central Ky Meats, Showalters, Whites and Green River Meats. In Columbia, each hunter who donates a deer will receive a raffle ticket on a Ruger American Rifle donated by Downey’s Gun and Pawn and Hometown Butcher. The drawing will occur in January 2025 after the current deer season concludes.
