For the first time in at least two decades, both the girls’ and boys’ cross-country teams have qualified for state competition. After the regional finals, both teams are ranked in the top 20 in the state. The girls’ team is ranked 10th; the boys’ team is ranked 19th.
“It’s a pretty big deal for Adair County Cross Country,” said Head Coach Bill Hillock.
The individual standouts for the team are Briana Hillock, who is ranked 7th of 229 girls in the state, and Luke Albrektson, who is ranked 21st of 268 boys.
The cross country team will compete as a team and will also be eligible to receive individual awards.
The state meet is Saturday, Nov 1 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. The boys will race at 11:30 cst and the girls will follow at 12:15 cst.
“The fact that we haven’t been in two decades and we have two teams that are ranked in the top 20 in the state says a lot,” said Hillock.
