Columbia is getting excited for one of its most anticipated events as the Downtown Days Festival returns Friday, Oct. 10 and Saturday, Oct. 11.
The event brings a large crowd to the downtown square with a weekend full of food, music, shopping and community spirit.
The free concerts are always well attended and enjoyed by the locals and visitors from many other areas.
At 6 p.m. on Friday night, the local Green River Band will perform on the main stage.
The winners of 2024 River Festivus battle of the bands, Green River Band will start off the night playing country and southern rock.
Following them is another local band, Family Tradition – Hank Willliams, Jr. Tribute Band at 7:30 p.m. led by Scott Burton.
The audience will experience songs spanning the career of Hank, Jr. and according to Burton, a few Hank Williams, Sr. songs.
The much anticipated Saturday night concert has not been officially announced by the committee.
Almost 40 confirmed vendors will set up all around the square with a variety of arts, crafts, specialty goods and merchandise for everyone. An additional 18 vendors will be set up in the food court offering diverse foods for any palate.
New faces will be seen at the center of the festival this year. Last year’s committee decided it was time to pass the torch, and a new committee was formed.
The volunteer committee members for this year’s event are Andrea Feese, Diana Withers, Anna Burton Murray, Bridgette York, Annette Hatcher, Allison Cross and Carah Claiborne.
The committee is still accepting vendor applications until Sept. 20. The application is available on the Downtown Days Facebook page. Sponsors are also welcomed.
