Extension, price increase given for gas line contractor

A special called city council meeting was held on Friday morning. The meeting’s agenda primarily circled around a Greensburg Street gas line extension project.
Contractor Roe Enterprises DBA Swartz Pipeline requested a change order and Precision Engineering RMJE recommended its approval.
In a letter to Mayor Pam Hoots, Steve Harris with RMJE stated, “Essentially, the proposed gas line route used for bidding had to be modified to suit KYTC’s (Kentucky Transportation Cabinet) preferred route of the high-pressure gas line. These changes added an additional 257 linear feet of 8” steel encasement pipe and 360 linear feet of 4” steel gas line. Because this contract is a unit price contract, the contractor is owed for the additional footages at the awarded bid prices of $39 per foot of 8” steel encasement pipe and $99.10 per linear foot of 4” steel gas line.”
The change order amount brings the original total of $363,070 to $478,306.
In an attempt to reduce the cost, the email also says that the contractor “agreed to reduce the total footage of 8” steel encasement pipe by 53 feet to offset the value of the fittings.”
Contractor Roe Enterprises DBA Swartz Pipeline also requested an extension from March 16 to March 31 as “more time (is) needed given to material lead times and weather conditions.”
Motions were made and approved to grant the extension and the change order. The City Council also voted to apply for the Kentucky Utilities Grant and the Kentucky Product Development Initiatives Grant.
While the meeting was in session, the City Council also voted to approve an ordinance updating the pay/classification plan following its first reading at the previous, regularly-held city council meeting earlier this month.
