A two-vehicle collision Friday afternoon claimed the lives of both drivers in the Breeding community of Adair County.
Adair County 911 received a report of a two-vehicle collision around 4:40 p.m. Friday near the intersection of Burkesville Road and Blue Ridge Circle. According to the dispatch report, the initial calls indicated that each vehicle had one occupant that was entrapped.
Volunteer firefighters with Breeding Fire Department arrived on scene within approximately six minutes and advised dispatch that both drivers were unresponsive with heavy entrapment.
The preliminary report by Kentucky State Police revealed that Wayne Werth, 56, of Columbia was traveling south on Highway 61 when his 2018 Cadillac XT5 crossed the centerline and entered the northbound lane striking a 2008 Jeep Liberty. The Jeep was operated by Gavin Carlson, 16, of Breeding. Witnesses indicated that Carlson had attempted to avoid the collision using steering maneuvers.
The Adair County Coroner was called to the scene and pronounced both drivers dead.
Breeding Area Volunteer Fire Department and Columbia Adair County Volunteer Fire Department were at the scene to extricate both victims. The roadway was closed for approximately four hours.
Senior Trooper Trevor Sagrecy is leading the investigation.
KSP Post 15 Troopers were assisted by Columbia Police Department, Adair County Sheriff’s Department, Adair County EMS, Adair County 911, Breeding Area Volunteer Fire Department, Columbia Adair County Fire Department and Adair County Coroner’s Office.
