A funeral service will be held Friday for David Cecil King, Jr, a sixth-grade student at Adair County Middle School, who died on Wednesday, April 30 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
The driver of the vehicle, King’s father, faces numerous criminal charges stemming from the accident.
King’s mother, Melissa Morey, chose to help other children through organ donation. In a video posted on social media, Morey said she did this knowing that he will forever live on in so many others. His heart will beat in someone else’s chest.
The community rallied around the family and raised donations to pay for funeral services for King and for the funeral of Skyler Huckaby, 14, who died the night of the accident.
Superintendent Jason Faulkner released a statement earlier Sunday after King’s death and Morey’s announcement about organ donation.
“A remarkable and selfless gift that will give others a chance at life, even as his family and our community grieve,” he said.
Faulkner announced Wednesday that school will be canceled Friday.
