Adair County’s Green River Band has been named a top three finalist in Kentucky Living Magazine’s “Best Band in Kentucky” competition.
The nomination places the local band alongside Tyler Childers and JD Shelburne in the final round of voting, which is open online through May 31. Voting requires only a name and email address.
Nominations were accepted throughout February and the top three advanced to the finals.
Band member Craig Dean said he learned the news after receiving a letter on March 12 informing the group they had made the top three. He said they were asked to keep the information private until April 17.
Dean said fellow band member Jake Hill later sent him a message showing the finalists, which he initially thought was a joke.
“We expected to be up against other cover bands,” Dean said. “Not artists of that level.”
“It’s an honor to just be nominated, but when you look at the people who are nominated this year and who have been nominated in years past, it is very humbling to think about,” he said.
“The fact that we have gotten into the top three in this competition is a testament to the people that support us locally and those are the people that are going to carry us to hopefully winning this competition,” said Dean.
Online voting remains open through May 31, and community members can support the Green River Band by casting a vote daily through Kentucky Living Magazine’s website.
