The Adair County Volunteer Fire Department along with mutual aid from Breeding Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 133 Macky Spoon Rd. on April 7 at approximately 1:09 p.m.
Upon arrival the home was fully engulfed. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the residence, but the house was a total loss.
The homeowner, Chandler Bennett, stated at the scene that he was trying to start a fire and poured diesel fuel in the wood stove. The embers caught the floor on fire and he attempted to stomp it out. He was transported to TJ Samson Columbia by Adair County EMS for evaluation.
There were 13 firefighters on scene for approximately three hours. Agencies assisting in the fire were Adair County E911, Adair County EMS, Adair County Sheriff’s Office, Taylor County RECC, and Kentucky Red Cross.
