A household hazardous waste collection event will be held Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon at the Adair County Road Department, 62 Service Rd.
Items accepted during the waste collection event include aerosol cans of all types, antifreeze, and all types of batteries including alkaline, NiCad, lithium, and lead acid. Corrosives and flammables such as fuel and kerosene will be accepted, along with used motor oil, gasoline, paint, and limited amounts of pesticides and insecticides (no more than two gallons or two pounds per vehicle). Other accepted materials include propane tanks up to 20 pounds, CFL bulbs, 4-foot and 8-foot fluorescent tubes, pool chemicals, bleach, drain cleaners, fire extinguishers, mercury, roofing tar, driveway sealant, moth balls, and household, floor, and metal cleaners. Ammonia and vapes will also be accepted.
Items not accepted during the waste collection event include ammunition, explosives, medical waste, prescription medications, radioactive materials, tires, and electronics such as televisions and computers. Large appliances, including refrigerators and air conditioners, will not be accepted, nor will construction debris, household trash, or yard waste.
