Hwy. 127 in Russell Co. named in honor of Josh Phipps

It was a year ago Tuesday that Adair County resident Josh Phipps was killed in the line of duty.
He was serving as a Russell County deputy sheriff when he was killed after responding to a call of an active shooter in Russell Springs.
This past week, Phipps was honored by the Kentucky Sheriff’s Conference, where he received the Medal of Honor posthumously. Deputy Phipps was again honored on Monday in Russell County, where Hwy. 127 in Russell County was dedicated as the Deputy Sheriff Joshua Phipps Memorial Highway.
A ceremony was held at the Russell County Courthouse in Jamestown, where family and friends gathered to pay tribute and remember the ultimate sacrifice paid by Deputy Phipps. State Rep. Josh Branscum spoke during the ceremony, and a sign was unveiled that will be displayed on the highway.
