Adair County will continue its postseason run after finishing as the 20th District Tournament runners-up, defeating Campbellsville 2-1 in the opening round before falling to Taylor County 4-2 in the championship game Tuesday.
“Tough loss last night in the district finals, but that doesn’t take away such a huge win we had in the first round,” said Head Coach Ryan McQueary. “We are grateful to have advanced and for our season to be able to continue in the regional tournament.”
In Sunday’s opening-round win over Campbellsville, Adair County edged out a 2-1 victory to advance to the district finals.
Jasper Kemp started on the mound and recorded 24 outs, including 10 strikeouts. At the plate, Kemp went 3 for 4 to lead the Indians, who collected nine hits in the win.
Matthew MeJean doubled in the top of the second inning to put Adair County on the board. MeJean and Carson Darnell each drove in one run.
The Indians committed no errors defensively, with Alex Martin recording 10 plays.
Adair County faced Taylor County in Tuesday’s district championship game but came up short in a 4-2 loss.
Bryce Russell pitched six innings, allowing four runs on five hits while recording three strikeouts and issuing three walks.
MeJean led Adair County with runs batted in. Kemp, Russell, MeJean and Darnell each recorded one hit in the championship matchup.
“I am very proud of this baseball team and all that they have been able to accomplish this far,” he said. “I look forward to coaching us in the regional tournament.”
McQueary said that at this point a lot will depend on the draw that they receive Saturday.
The regional tournament will be held at Lindsey Wilson University.
