Indians fall to Metcalfe, but show strength

Adair County Indians football faced up against Metcalfe County Hornets Friday night at Lindsey Wilson University’s Parnell Stadium. A 2-point safety proved to be the deciding factor in a defense dominated game.
“We played with much more fire and passion this week. Now, we have to improve our execution and, really, just some Football 101,” said Head Football Coach Bryan Cross. “We had a couple of things happen that the staff thought the players understood about the game of football that they didn’t know. That’s our inexperience showing. As we grow in experience, we will play better and win games like this.”
Adair County showed improvement behind a young line gaining confidence. The highlight of the night came from Callum Darnell, who gained a 58-yard touchdown run that showcased his speed and technique. Darnell also gained a 12-yard run where he juked multiple defenders.
“Our offensive line has improved by leaps and bounds as they gain experience. Only one of them had any varsity experience going into this season and they are growing up quickly. I expect an even better performance by them next week at Casey County. That’s what we are looking for – steady improvement” said Cross.
Braxton McKinney attempted 27 passes with 14 completions and netted 82 yards. Darnell led with 73 rushing yards. Maylon Coblentz had a total of 12 tackles with 10 being solo. Tristan Stotts forced and recovered a fumble.
Despite the disappointment of another loss, Adair County will look to turn the corner Friday as they travel to Casey County.
