The Adair County Indians football team hit the road Friday night for a matchup against Larue County. The Indians came up just short, falling 25-20 in a tightly contested battle.
Despite the final score, the Indians showed flashes of promise throughout the night. But in the end, a few missed opportunities and untimely mistakes proved costly as Larue County was able to hang on for the win.
“We played so hard Friday night. We played hard enough to win the ball game,” said Head Coach Bryan Cross. “We just didn’t execute and had four or five mental errors that cost us the ballgame”.
The loss drops Adair County to 1-5 on the season, but the record doesn’t fully reflect the competitiveness of this team. Some of the Indians’ losses have come by narrow margins, including last week’s close defeat, indicating that this group continues to fight and improve week to week.
One of the ongoing challenges for Adair County has been a string of injuries that have impacted key positions on both sides of the ball.
“We are getting better each week, but injuries are starting to stack up so we are looking forward to getting through fall break and getting healthy,” said Cross.
Though the scoreboard hasn’t always tilted in their favor, the Indians continue to show resilience and heart that can’t be measured by wins.
As the team prepares for the rest of their schedule, they’ll be looking to clean up the small mistakes, get healthier, and continue competing with the same toughness they displayed on Friday night.
Adair County will play at Hart County Friday night.
