The Columbia Police Department responded to Adair Regional Jail last Thursday night after deputy jailers discovered a Cumberland County inmate was concealing narcotics.
John Carter, 34, of Burksville, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance as well as promoting contraband.
Officer Tyler McKinney was the investigating officer. He was assisted by Adair Regional jail staff.
