A community blood drive will be held Tuesday, Oct. 28, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Columbia Church of Christ Fellowship Hall, 501 Jamestown St., Columbia.
Each blood donation can save up to three lives, according to the Kentucky Blood Center. The entire process – from registration to refreshments – takes about 45 minutes. Donors will also receive a “Stay Wild” T-shirt, while supplies last, as a thank-you gift.
Because blood cannot be manufactured, donations are essential for patients at more than 70 hospitals across Kentucky who rely on lifesaving blood products. One in four people will need a blood transfusion in their lifetime for treatments related to cancer, trauma, surgeries, blood disorders, or organ transplants.
Donation Requirements
Blood donors must be at least 17 years old (or 16 with a signed parental consent form), weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in general good health. A photo ID is required at registration. Parental permission slips for 16-year-old donors are available at kybloodcenter.org.
