Middle school football kicks off the season

Adair County Middle School football has been preparing since mid-Ju-ly for their first game of the season. The team, led by Head Coach Wes Stephens, has been prac-ticing four days a week.
Thursday, August 7 was their first scrim-mage of the season.
“Every year for our scrimmage, we try to bring in some of the best teams in the area,” said Stephens.
Northern Pulaski, Danville and Wayne County participated this year. The teams played in a “round robin” for-mat allowing each team to play all three oppo-nents.
“We played well at times,” Stephens said. “We’ve got a lot of things that we need to clean up as we move into the reg-ular season.”
The main two goals from the scrimmage were to compete on every play and not sustain any major injuries. The team accomplished that.
“A lot of our kids got their first game experi-ence which is huge and something that just can’t be replicated in practice.” he said.
The middle school team opens regular sea-son play on Thursday at Metcalfe County at 6pm.
“They’re [Metcalfe] always a tough bunch of kids, just hard-nosed and physical. We will try to fine tune our game plan this week and fix some things we saw from the scrimmage. The goal is to go 1-0 this week” said Stephens.
