Middle School Lady Indians’ basketball improves as season continues

The Adair County Middle School girls’ basketball teams continue to make progress as the season moves forward, with the seventh-grade team holding a 6-1 record and the sixth-grade team at 5-3.
The eighth-grade team is 3-5 on the season, but coach Tashua Moore believes the team can turn things around with continued hard work and determination.
The eighth-grade Lady Indians have had multiple players step up in recent games. Moore said that two players had successful games against Casey County. Abella Phelps scored a career-high 20 points and Paisley Shehan added 19. Shehan continues to be one of the team’s leading scorers.
“Our eighth-grade team has taken some losses, but there is season left that I believe with hard work and determination from the team we will make a turn around,” Moore said.
The seventh-grade team has also been consistent, with Roxie Booth continuing to be a main contributor in scoring and rebounding. Moore said Booth is averaging double-digit scoring in almost every game.
Olivia Feese scored 10 points against Green County and provided a strong effort for the Lady Indians. Moore said she was pleased with Feese’s confidence and hustle and expects that part of her game to continue developing.
“We have a steady team for 7th grade, and we will continue to push forward with their strength of working together well,” Moore said.
The sixth-grade Lady Indians are 5-3, with Jessalynn Russell and Nellianna Grant leading the team in recent games. Russell scored 12 points against Green County, followed by Grant with 10. Grant then led the team with 21 points against Campbellsville.
Moore said Caylyn White has shown recent improvement from the 3-point line and she hopes White’s confidence continues to grow.
“As season continues, we need consistency with this team as they will grow with each other and confidence continues to grow,” Moore said.
The middle school Lady Indians return to the court Tuesday, Sept. 8, at home. The first game is scheduled for 5 p.m. This will be their first game night in the new Adair County Middle School gym.
