The Adair County Indians wrestling team competed in its first match on Saturday. The middle school squad traveled to Warren County for the South Warren Spartan Duals.
Every athlete competed and wrestled multiple teams throughout the day.
“We had a lot of kids who won several matches, but as a team we won one dual,” said Assistant Coach Derek Nickel.
A total of 28 team members participated. Although it was a middle school meet, a few high school students wrestled in exhibition matches.
This is the first year for the wrestling program, and interest has been strong. The team includes approximately 50 students.
The Indians will compete in an individual middle school tournament Saturday at Central Hardin. Each wrestler is guaranteed at least two matches in a bracket-style format, competing individually while earning points for the team.
“We are proud of the students, they are doing the right thing and everybody is happy to have the program here,” Nickel said.
The first home meet is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 4, at 5:30 p.m.
