Mother, son die in head-on collision in Adair

A Jamestown woman and her son died after a head-on collision in Adair County Friday.

Emergency services were called to the area of 3795 S. Hwy 55 for a two-vehicle collision at 1:20 p.m. Friday. Kentucky State Police is investigating and reports that Linda Young, 74, and Chris Young, 45, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Russell County Sheriff's office reports that the victims are the brother and mother of Deputy Troy Young at the Russell County Sheriff's Office.

KSP said peliminary investigation shows that Linda Young was traveling south on KY 55 in a 2015 Chevolet Cruse when she crossed the centerline of the roadway and entered the northbound lane. Her vehicle collided with a 2016 GMC Yukon operated by Dana Arnold, 55 of Grand Rivers.

Arnold was transported to the University of Kentucky Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. 

Along with KSP, responding emergency services were the Adair County Sheriff's Office, Adair County Fire Department, Adair EMS, the Adair County Coroner and the Kentucky State Highway Department. KSP Senior Trooper Weston Sullivan is investigating.
