A probation revocation hearing was held Tuesday in Adair Circuit Court for Kelcie C. Wendry. She was charged on June 21 with criminal abuse, second degree, child under 12.
Court records show that Wendry had previously been arrested on an indictment warrant on May 14, 2023 charging her with second-degree criminal abuse, child 12 or under, first-degree wanton endangerment and endangering the welfare of a minor.
On March 26, 2024, Wendry entered a plea agreement with the Commonwealth, pleading guilty to all three charges. She was sentenced to five years of supervised probation with the condition that she commit no additional offenses.
Testimony was heard from Probation and Parole Officer Justin Harvey and Columbia Police Officer Trent Williams.
Williams testified about the call that was received on June 21 involving her four children who were all under the age of five.
“It was a little small room, had two little beds in it. It smelled like urine and feces. The sheets were extremely dirty. The pillowcases had small like rust spots. There was multiple signs of bed bugs, no covers, no air conditioning in the room,” said Williams.
“There was a small fan on the wall, but it was not turned on. It was extremely hot that day. There was a small window, but it was not open. The floors were like plywood, which could easily have splinters for the kids,” he said.
He said the children were locked inside the room from the outside and would have no way to get out of the house if there was a fire.
Body camera footage from Williams was played showing the conditions of the residence. The light in the bedroom was not on and there was a curtain blocking light from the window. Officers used flashlights to see inside the room.
Wendry told the officers that she was either at work or upstairs and never downstairs with the children.
One of the children involved in this case is the same child that Wendry was currently on probation for the same charge.
Murphy revoked Wendry’s probation and she was ordered to serve the rest of the five year sentence she received in 2024.
