New information is unfolding after the shooting death of Jordan Hadley, which was followed with his father, Phillip Bruce Hadley, being charged with murder.

Phillip Bruce Hadley, 56, of Columbia appeared in Adair County District Court on Wednesday, Jan. 14 for arraignment. He is charged with murder, a class A felony. District Judge Michael Loy set Hadley’s bond at $1 million cash.

According to records obtained by the Voice, Hadley called Adair County 911 at 2:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 13 saying, “I…just…my son...I shot my son…I just shot him. Come to address…my son has assaulted me and I shot and killed him.”

Dispatch asked Bruce “you shot your son?” and he stated “yes”.

Hadley said that the female in the background screaming was his mother and he was trying to stay between her and Jordan. The incident occurred at his mother’s residence on Highway 55 South.

A second call by Bruce was placed to 911 at 3:03 p.m. where he tells dispatch that he knows he [Jordan] is dead.

An arrest citation states that during an interview conducted by Kentucky State Police Detective, B.J. Burton, Bruce “described an apparent ongoing conflict with his adult son, Jordan.”

The citation revealed that earlier on Tuesday, Jan 13, the two men had a verbal altercation and Bruce said that Jordan shoved him. Just before the incident, Bruce was at his mother’s residence when Jordan arrived and a verbal argument ensued.

Bruce told Burton that Jordan made the statement, “This is going to end today.” Bruce said  Jordan shoved him twice and, as Jordan was approaching him a third time, Bruce drew a 40-caliber handgun and shot Jordan. Bruce said he thought Jordan was reaching for a gun.

The arrest citation says that no firearm was located on Jordan or anywhere near the location of the shooting other than Bruce’s gun.

Bruce’s mother corroborated the events as described by Bruce. Bruce was arrested and lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail around 7 p.m.

Bruce remains in custody. His next court appearance is Wednesday, January 21 at 10 a.m. for a preliminary hearing. The preliminary hearing will determine if the case is sent to the grand jury.
