Old Concord Community Church

Nestled along Fairplay Road, Old Concord Community Church stands as a quiet but enduring landmark, representing generations of faith, fellowship, and service. With a history stretching back well over a century, the church continues to honor its roots while responding to the needs of the present community.

The church was moved to its current location at 5996 Fairplay Road around 1888, establishing a permanent home that has since witnessed countless worship services, revivals, weddings, funerals, and community gatherings. From its earliest days, Old Concord has been shepherded by devoted leaders who helped shape its spiritual foundation. Among the early pastors were Reverends George W. Taylor, James Breeding, L. B. Davidson, J. A. Johnson, W. P. Sharp, S. G. Shelly, and James Parks Vanhoy, men whose ministries helped anchor the church in faith and perseverance during changing times.

In more recent history, a significant chapter began in 1993, when Brother Sam Burris became pastor of what was then known as Old Concord United Methodist Church. Brother Burris pastored faithfully for two decades, retiring in 2013 after years of steady leadership, preaching, and pastoral care. That same year, Brother Pat Smith stepped into the role of pastor. Since then, Brother Smith has continued to bring a consistent and heartfelt message, guiding the congregation with a focus on scripture, community, and service.

Another defining moment came in 2022, when the congregation withdrew from the Methodist Conference. Embracing a new identity while maintaining its long-held mission, the church became Old Concord Community Church.

That spirit of service took a tangible form in 2025, when Old Concord Community Church partnered with Feed America to begin a food ministry. Through this partnership, the church reaches out to neighbors in need, offering practical help alongside spiritual encouragement. The ministry has become an important expression of the church’s belief that faith is lived out through compassion and action.

Today, Old Concord Community Church remains active and welcoming. Sunday School begins each Sunday at 10:00 a.m., providing a time for study and fellowship for all ages, followed by worship at 11:00 a.m., when Brother Pat Smith brings the weekly message.  Old Concord’s strength lies in its deep roots, committed leadership, and heart for service.

From its move to Fairplay Road in the 19th century to its community-focused mission today, Old Concord Community Church continues to stand as a testament to faithfulness, resilience, and love for others—an enduring presence in the life of the community it serves.
