An accident on the Louie B. Nunn Parkway Friday sent eight people to the hospital. At 4:39 p.m. Friday, Adair County 911 received a call of a two-vehicle accident with injuries. The original caller stated it was a vehicle versus a semi tractor trailer.
Upon arrival at the 57-mile marker, emergency personal found a 2020 Dodge pickup had struck a 2011 Chevrolet HHR. The Dodge was operated by Steven Burley, 42, of Maryland, and the HHR was operated by Tabatha Bernard, 31, of Russell Springs.
Both vehicles were traveling eastbound when Burley passed a vehicle. As he was merging back into the right-hand lane, he struck the left rear of the HHR. Both vehicles lost control and landed in the median.
Randi Wiley, 39, of Maryland, and three juveniles were passengers in the Burley vehicle. There were two juvenile passengers in the Bernard vehicle. All eight patients were transported by EMS to either T.J. Health Columbia or Russell County Hospital.
Numerous agencies assisted on the scene including, Adair County Sheriff’s Department, Kentucky State Police, Adair County Fire Department, Adair County Emergency Management, Columbia City Police, Adair County EMS, and Russell Springs Fire Department.
At least two patients were flown from T.J. Health Columbia for further treatment. Kentucky State Police Trooper Sean Sweat is investigating the accident.
