Rodeo, rides, new attractions set for Adair County fair

The Adair County Fair returns this weekend, bringing an array of events including a rodeo, carnival rides, and competitions.
The fair gets underway Saturday with the Bullwhip Rodeo, giving visitors an early taste of the excitement to come. Admission to the rodeo is $15, with an additional $2 parking fee, located at 256 Industrial Park Road.
The carnival opens Wednesday and will remain open through Saturday, Sept. 5. Admission Wednesday through Saturday is $10, plus $2 for parking.
The annual fair will feature many returning favorites, including pageants, animal shows, truck and lawnmower pulls and karaoke. The fair would be complete without the once-a-year fair food.
This year’s fair also brings several new events to the lineup.
On Thursday, Sept. 3, fairgoers can take part in a new fiber arts educational seminar focused on natural fibers from animals. The seminar will provide an opportunity to learn about different techniques and the many ways animal fibers can be used.
A new event Saturday, Sept. 5, will put horsepower and driving skills on display with the bump-and-run race. Dan Scott, fair reporter, described the bump-and-run as a combination of a circle track race and a demolition derby, giving spectators a fast-paced event unlike anything previously featured at the fair.
He said the event is growing in popularity across the United States, and they are excited to bring it to Adair County.
Tuesday’s admission will be free for the dog and pet show. The carnival will arrive on Wednesday.
Whether fairgoers come for the competitions, the carnival rides, the animals, the entertainment or a funnel cake, the Adair County Fair is once again offering a little bit of everything that makes it a tradition.
