A new award for teachers and staff was introduced at the Adair County school board regular meeting last Thursday.
Superintendent Jason Faulker introduced Sarah Hatton, director of secondary education, to present the new award.
The district will present the ASCEND award each month to recognize staff members.
The award will be presented to teachers or staff based on the district’s five core values.
This month’s award was for acting with integrity. Three individuals were recognized.
The elementary division award went to Jeana Pike, a teacher at Adair County Elementary School.
The secondary division went to Megan Bloyd, a teacher at Adair County Middle School.
The district division went to Wes Irvin, exceptional education director.
Steven Mason, project manager with Codell Construction, gave an update on the new middle school. On the lower level, ceilings are being installed and walls painted. The external metal sheets have arrived and are going up quicker than expected.
A substantial amount of work has been underway in the mechanical room, pushing to have controlled air turned on in October. The road that will connect to Indian Drive will be rocked before the winter weather hits. It will be paved in the spring so the heavy equipment does not affect it.
Superintendent Faulkner gave an update on the new football field, which was used for the first time the following night.
“It is a really nice addition to the campus,” said Faulkner.
