T.J. Health Columbia is expanding its healthcare offerings with the introduction of a new cardiopulmonary rehabilitation program, aimed at supporting patients recovering from serious heart and lung conditions while allowing them to stay close to home. The new program is designed for individuals recovering from heart attacks, heart surgery, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and other cardiovascular or pulmonary diagnoses.
It offers a medically supervised approach that combines structured exercise, patient education, and individualized care planning. Program features include individualized exercise programs tailored to each patient’s condition and goals, continuous monitoring by trained healthcare professionals, education on heart-healthy living and breathing techniques, and long-term support to help reduce risk factors and prevent future complications.
Patients who participate in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation often see improvements in endurance, symptom management, and overall understanding of how to manage their condition over time.
Jodie Holgate, Executive Vice President of Patient Care Services, emphasized the importance of keeping recovery close to home.
“For so many of our neighbors here in Columbia and across Adair County, a heart attack, heart surgery or a diagnosis like COPD doesn’t just change in a single moment, it changes how someone breathes, how they move and how they show up for the people they love,” said Holgate. “Recovery from those events shouldn’t mean traveling away from home, shouldn’t mean going away from family or away from the community who knows you, but today that will change”
