Jeffrey Lee Gilbert, III, of Columbia was arrested Thursday morning after a traffic stop and altercation with police.
Adair County Sheriff Deputy Hunter Tweedy was patrolling in the Sparksville community when he observed a vehicle with one working headlight. Tweedy stopped the vehicle, and Gilbert had a Kentucky identification card, but no drivers’ license.
Gilbert refused to get out of the vehicle when asked and Tweedy and Deputy Josh Durbin removed him from the vehicle and attempted to place him under arrest. A brief physical altercation took place before Gilbert was taken into custody.
During a roadside investigation, deputies located suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, digital scale, and small plastic zipper bags.
Gilbert was lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail on the following charges, one headlight; obstructing governmental operations; resisting arrest; drug paraphernalia-buy/possess; possession of controlled substance 2nd degree- drug unspecified; prescription controlled substance not in proper container 1st offense; trafficking in controlled substance 1st degree, 2nd or greater offense, (methamphetamine); operating motor vehicle under the influence of substance 2nd, aggravated circumstance; and license to be in possession.
Tweedy is investigating with assistance from Durbin and Deputy Nick Barber.
